Collaboration and the creative process allow for the unknown and the accidental. A starting point is utilized but the work is ever-changing and develops with each addition and subtraction of a mark, colour or intention. The same applies when artists come together to share their combinations of styles, mediums and viewpoints. It creates a rich and layered sensory experience that would not otherwise be present in our individual artworks.

Juxtaposition is an alchemical force that gives our exhibition energy and movement. The relationships between our pieces are formed in their varying combinations which allows new narratives to emerge. Though each member of the CONNECT collective utilizes diverse mediums and examines various subjects, we find common themes: exploration of the self; a desire to be present; the grounding power of nature. Collaboration in our collective community offers an opportunity to realize our shared experiences, dissolving isolationary barriers. Our show will consist of approximately 15 pieces that explore these themes through the lens of alchemy in oil paint, acrylic paint, printmaking, embroidery, encaustic and more.

Coming together as a group of female and other underrepresented gendered artists provides an opportunity for us to put into practice our values of community over division and cooperation over competition. We share and nurture our unique skills and strengths with each other in order to transform into something greater than we could alone. We are rediscovering community in the modern age and celebrating what it means to be creative in partnership.

Join us for the opening reception on March 21st at 5pm.

Snag in the Valley

Snag in the Valley is back!

We'll be at Open Space on April 27th in Downtown Abbotsford, from 5-9pm. We've got all new artists this round. They will be sharing a glimpse into their creative process, making a fresh piece of art, and giving it all away at the end of the night. As always, door is $10 and includes one free raffle ticket. We're serving up $5 local craft beers as well!

Featured artists:

Rebekah Brackett (@wednesticfriday) is a local beader, printmaker, and dog mom with an incredibly intricate style of illustration. Her work focuses on the ordinary and the extraordinary everyday moments with loved ones,

Susannah White (@skw_artist) is a painter of faces and places who uses bold colours and contrast to great effect. Her work will draw you in and change the way you see the world around you.

Aidan van Delft (@avandelft_art) is an artist whose talents extend into many media and has a gift for representing the here and now. I remember feeling transported the first time I saw their work.
